(July 2008) The Madison Art Clubs
10th annual Art Show and Competition will include several
top flight events, beginning Aug. 28-29 with two plein air
workshops, led by master artists Todd Reifers and Bill Borden.
The events culminate Sept. 7 with a Public Art Show and Reception
at the clubs Main Street art gallery, 301 E. Main St.
In between these events will be a movable feast with all kinds
of experiences for the art enthusiasts from ages 8 to 80.
These events will be punctuated by a Bonfire Social at 6:30
p.m. Aug. 30 at the Madison riverfront that will be open to
everyone.
On Aug. 29-31, the 2008 ArtFest will move into
high gear with a Paint Madison Plein Air Paint Out.
After the plein air event, three top works will be presented
awards in both the Junior (17-under) and senior (18-older)
divisions.
The Best of Show award will be a
Purchase Award of $500 to be presented by Madison Mayor Tim
Armstrong. Other awards will be given in various categories.
The categories open for this plein air experience will be:
Oil and Acrylic; Watercolor and Pastel. All events are sponsored
by the Arts Council of Southern Indiana and several local
contributors.
For the 2008 annual Madison Art Club Art Show and Competition
itself, the show is not juried for entry. All work must be
at the art gallery no later than Aug. 23 or Aug. 24 between
11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
The award will be full to overflowing with $7,500 given away
in award money. The club seeks new works by artists entering
this competition and works must be original and completed
within the last two years. The works must also be for sale
and priced reasonably.
Both the Awards Ceremony for the Plein Air Paint
Out and the Art Show will be held at the art gallery at 2:30
p.m. on Aug. 31.
This will be the best artwork youll find in a
cooperative art gallery anywhere, said Madison Art Club
President Bob Saueressig. Each year the quality of the
artwork has gotten better. For example, last year we had an
unusually high number of pastels of the finest quality.
