(June 2005) – Plans are under way for the 2005 Madison
Regatta and festival, despite the fact no title sponsor has
yet been signed, officials said.

The race schedule will include a full vintage
and Unlimited hydroplane program on Friday through Sunday,
July 1-3. The Madison Regatta Festival, meanwhile, is in full
swing, with details recently released for festival events
running from June 25 to July 2.
One new feature this year will be a Texas Hold’em Tournament
Championship, sponsored by Best Western of Madison and held
in conjunction with the Madison Indiana Area Chamber of Commerce
and Madison Regatta Inc. This exciting and popular event will
be held June 11 at the Best Western Hotel in the Regatta Room
of the Nex-Dor Lounge. Dealing will begin at 4 p.m. (EST-slow
time). A $50 registration deposit will be required.
Deadline to register is Friday, June 10. Cash and Credit Cards
only please. A $200 Buy-in, with no re-buy will also be in
place. The event will be open to the first 100 paid players
to register.
Prize money will be awarded to the top five winners. Based
on a full house, the prize money will be $8,000 for first;
$2,500 for second; $1,500 for third; $1,000 for fourth; and
$500 for fifth place.
The Madison Regatta Festival has many returning events, including
a Battle of the Bands and a 3-on-3 basketball tournament.
Entry information also is available for musicians wanting
to compete in this year’s “Radio 96.3 WJAA Battle
of the Bands” contest, scheduled for Thursday, June 30,
of Regatta week at the riverfront. To enter the contest, bands
must submit a demo tape and contact information to Mom’s
Music, 114 E. Main St., Madison. Or call Mom’s Music
at (812) 273-0366 and ask for event organizer Jimmy Davis.
Applications are available for the Cruisin’ Auto Madison
Regatta 3-on-3 StreetBall Fest, set for 8 a.m. Saturday, June
25. Early bird team entry fee is $60 by June 12, and $70 thereafter.
Deadline for entries is June 20. There are several divisions
for both men and women from the fourth grade to a 35-and-over
for the men and a 19-and-over division for the women. All
participants receive a T-shirt.
Applications and game rules can be picked up at the Madison
Regatta office, on the Regatta’s website or at the following
businesses: Cruisin’ Auto, Best Western of Madison, Chicago’s
Pizza, WORX Radio, and Kelsey’s Collectibles.
Meanwhile, Regatta officials say there are still some $5 Limited
Edition “Madison” movie premiere buttons left for
sale.
This year’s Saturday night fireworks show again has been
generously sponsored by the American Legion Post 9. The fireworks
spectacular, held at the riverfront, is free to the public.
On other nights, a Regatta wristband or button will be required
to access the riverfront.
Advance admission wristbands are on sale at many area stores
and the Regatta office on Vaughn Drive. Advance price is $20
through June 26; $25 thereafter. Children 10-under are free.
Fans can purchase tarp spaces, VIP Tent tickets, Hospitality
Tents or RV spaces.
