MADISON, Ind. (June 25, 2005) The 2005 Madison
Regatta began its weeklong festival June 25 with the Young
Insurance Agency Little Miss & Mister Pageant at the Ohio
Theater in Madison Ind.
Nineteen young ladies vied for the title of Little Miss Madison
Regatta. The winning Little Miss Regatta was Baile Layne Mason,
6-year-old daughter of Monty and Jennifer Mason of Madison.
First runner-up was Cheyenne Elizabeth Kay Lahue, 9-year-old
daughter of Carl and Stacy Lahue of Leavenworth, Ind. Second
runner-up was Latasha Cheyan Vasquez, 6-year-old daughter
of Marcos and Vicki Vasquez of Madison.

On the boys side, eight contestants were entered
in this years event. The winning Little Mister Regatta
was Conner Richmond, 6-year-old son of Dave and Cookie Richmond
of Madison. First runner-up was Matthew Bailey Chatham, 6
years old and the son of Billy and Kim Chatham of Madison.
The second runner-up was Alexander Simmons, 9 year old son
of Mark and Georgia Simmons of Madison.
All contestants were given a goodie bag, as well as enjoying
a great experience. The winners received a savings bond, bicycle,
a trophy, crown, sash, entry into the Madison Regatta parade,
general admission wristbands and pit passes for the child
and parents.
Madison
Regatta 3 on 3 Streetball Fest
The Madison Regatta Streetball Fest tipped off Saturday, June
25, on an especially hot summer day. The ninth annual Cruisin
Auto 3 on 3 tourney was contested on Vaughn Drive in front
of Crystal Beach Pool in Madison.
Forty teams competed in various divisions. The first games
tipped off at 9 a.m. and the results are as follows:
Fourth-fifth grade girls team, named appropriately Teamwork,
won first place. The winning team is members Cadie Povaleri,
Samantha Wynn, Hannah Cain and Ashleigh Poling. The Mahoney
team finished in second place.
Fourth-fifth grade boys under the Clifty Engineering banner
placed first. The Clifty team members are Zach Westerfield,
Ben Grimes, Mackenzy Withered and Trey Boles. The Povaleri
team finished in runner-up position.
Sixth-seventh grade boys division was won by the Bad Boys
team consisting of Tyler Leap, Jordan Ashcraft, Donnie Malcomb,
and Evan Hackney. Second place went to the Povaleri team.
Eighth-ninth grade girls division winner was Lil Ballas.
The Lil Ballas team members are Ebony Inskeep, Patrishia
Lustig, Rachel Muessel, and Carrie Truax. Second place was
secured by the Green Machine team.

Eighth-ninth grade boys division was won by
the Skillz team. Team members are Tyler Chatham, Lucky Freeman,
Ryan Adams, and Cody Randall. Second place went to the Rebels
team.
Tenth-11th grade boys division was won by the Whitehead Warriors.
The Warriors team consists of Cam Richards, Joe Pyles, Elliot
Dutra, and Darin Munn. Second place went to Hadleys
Rebels.
35-Over division champ was the Older than Dirt team. Team
members are Mark Burkhead, Keith Lunsford, Donald Brooks and
Scott Brooks. The Hanover Package Store team finished second.
19-34 Mens Division consisted of 13 teams, with four
Pool Play winners advancing to the semifinals.
The Railsplitters won the championship by unseating the two
time defending champs GUTT 30-29 in the final. The Railspltters
team members are Ryan Laswell, Will Jackson, Norman Wells
and Darryl Yarbrough. The GUTT team members are Mike Conover,
Dustin Getz, Danny Gibson and Eric Reffett.
Norman Wells hit the game winner.
Barringer named Miss Madison Regatta
Sarah Elizabeth Barringer won the 2005 Miss Madison Regatta
Scholarship Pageant, held monday, June 27, at the Madison
Consolidated High School Auditorium.
Barringer beat out 13 other contestants in a series of competitions
that included interviews and performing monologues, and modeling
sportswear and evening gowns. They also had to answer a secret
question.

Barringer is the daughter of Lisa Konkle and
Terry Barringer of Madison. She is a 2005 Shawe Memorial High
School graduate who plans on attending the University of Southern
Indiana in the fall.
Runner-up was Hannah Nicole Waller-Marsh, second runner-up
Alex Whitney Burgin and third runner-up Elizabeth Carpenter
Jones. The contestants voted Jessica Rene Geisler as Miss
Congeniality.
Barringer and her court will attend the many Madison Regatta
festival events and help present the victor's trophy on race
day, Sunday, July 3, during the Unlimited hydroplane races.
Washington
Street Firemen wash down the competition in Waterball Fight
The annual Madison Regatta Waterball Fight took place Tuesday
night, June 28, on Main Street in Madison. The Fillin
Station Liquors Madison Regatta Waterball Fight provided much
excitement as local area fire houses dueled with hoses to
decide the champion for 2005. Nine fire companies competed
this year, including the Madison Township department, as well
as the Milton, Ky., and Bedford, Ky., fire departments.
The championship round was fought by Madisons Washington
Street No. 2 (Redrovers), and the Walnut Street No. 4 fire
department. The Redrovers won both three-minute rounds. The
first round scored 2 minutes, 59 seconds to 0. The second
round was decided in the time of 2 minutes, 41 seconds to
0. The Washington Street No. 2 fire company has won more waterball
events than any fire department since the event began. They
have also won the last seven competitions.
Beds
race takes center stage on Main Street
The River Valley Financial Bank Bed Race was held Wednesday,
June 30, on Main Street in the shadow of the historic Jefferson
County Courthouse. A large enthusiastic crowd cheered on their
favorite teams as they competed for the coveted title of Madison
Regatta Bed Race Champion. The theme for this years
annual Bed Race event was America the Great Melting
Pot.

Clifty
Engineering bed racers
won the bed race on June 30.

Five teams squared off to claim the title of
Bed Race Champion in a spirited and hard fought competition
to determine the ultimate winner. The overall winner was the
Clifty Engineering team, which backed up its 2004 Bed Race
win. The second place team was the River Valley Financial
Bank entry, followed by teams from I.K.E.C., WORX Radio and
Hard Body Gym & Café in order.
The Parade of Beds was held prior to the racing portion with
beds judged on their originality, suitable attire to theme,
the theme itself, and crowd effect. First place went to Clifty
Engineering. The Sportsmanship award winner was Hard Body
Gym & Café.
Battle of the Bands winner is High Voltage
High Voltage won the Radio 96.3 WJAA "Battle of the Bands"
competition on Thursday, June 30. It was held on a stage at
the Madison riverfront as part of the festival. High Voltage
competed against a record 19 other bands vying for a recording
session and prize money.
7TH Story, Marvella, Tribalance, Undisclosed, High Voltage,
Final Notice, Shelter, Calling Home, Passin Lane, $50 Whiskey,
Fear Therapy, The Shape, and The Human Condition played before
a large and enthusiastic crowd, trying to impress the judges
with each performance. Last year's winner's, Sulfate, performed
on Saturday afternoon at the festival.
