(June 2008) Madison Regatta race
fans will get a sneak preview of the upcoming American Boat
Racing Associations Unlimited hydroplane season if they
head down to the Ohio River on June 17. Thats the day
the Miss Madison-Oh Boy! Oberto race team is planning to test
the race boat in preparation for the upcoming season. Testing
will begin at 8 a.m., weather and river conditions permitting.
Driver Steve David, crew chief Mike Hanson and owners
representative Bob Hughes plan to take part in the testing
session.
The Thunder on the Ohio in Evansville will be the first race
of the 2008 season and will take place June 27-29 on the Ohio
River. The Madison Regatta is scheduled for July 5-6, but
the festival events begin a week earlier, on Saturday, June
28.
A complete lineup of festival events is provided in the box.
The race schedule and race previews will be published in RoundAbouts
annual Madison Regatta Guide. Watch for the free publication
to appear on June 27.
Entrants sought for Miss Madison Regatta Scholarship Pageant
The Miss Madison Regatta Scholarship Pageant, sponsored by
Xi Beta Upsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, will be
held Monday, June 30. The pageant is open to girls between
the ages of 18-26. Entrants must have reached their 18th birthday
by June 1.
The competition is not limited to the Madison area, but also
includes the surrounding counties and states. The winner will
receive a $1,000 scholarship plus various

Applications are now available at River Valley Financial Bank,
430 Clifty Dr., Steinhardt Heating & Air Conditioning
in Hanover, and Miss Vivians Tanning Salon on Miles
Ridge Road.
Entry fee is $75. Deadline for submitting applications is
June 7. The pageant will be limited to the first 12 entries
