(June 27, 2008) – The 2008 Madison Regatta Festival has many returning events, including the annual parade down Main Street on Friday night, a Battle of the Bands contest and the popular Waterball Fight between local fire departments.
Beginning at noon Saturday, June 28, the Little Miss and Miss Pre-Teen Madison Regatta will be crowned at the Madison Consolidated High School Auditorium. At 6 p.m., the Miss Teen will be crowned.
As of June 22, 11 young women had entered this year’s Miss Madison Regatta Scholarship Pageant, sponsored by Xi Beta Upsilon sorority. The event is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Monday, June 30, at the Madison Consolidated High School Auditorium. Doors open at 7. Tickets are $6 at the door or in advance at River Valley Financial Bank, Steinhardt Heating and Air Conditioning, and at the Madison Regatta office.
Festival events continue on Tuesday, July 1, with the Indiana-Kentucky Electric Corp. Bed Race, set for 5:30 p.m. on Main Street in front of the Jefferson County Courthouse.
The Fillin’ Station Liquors Waterball Fight begins at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday on Vaughn Drive and Broadway Street. The WORX 96.7 FM Street Dance is also Wednesday from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Fireman’s Park.
This year’s “Radio 96.3 WJAA Battle of the Bands” contest is scheduled for Thursday, July 3, at the riverfront. Live music also will be on tap from 7 p.m.-11 p.m. Friday, and from 1 p.m.-11 p.m. Saturday.

• Wednesday, July 2: Fillin’ Station Liquors Waterball Fight. 5:30 p.m. on Vaughn Drive and Broadway Street.
• Tuesday, July 1: Indiana-Kentucky Electric Corp. Bed Race. 5:30 p.m. on Main Street in front of Jefferson County Courthouse.
• Wednesday, July 2: WORX 96.7 FM Street Dance. 8-11 p.m. at Fireman’s Park, foot of Jefferson Street & Vaughn.
• Thursday, July 3: Sprint Media Party & Madison Area Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours. 4 – 6:30 p.m. at the VIP Tent at the riverfront. (Open to the media, race drivers, team owners, race officials, chamber members and their guests only.)
• Music on the River, sponsored by Arvin Sango Inc., Big-O Tires, Madison Music Center at Fireman’s Park on the riverfront. 7-11 p.m.
• Thursday, July 3: Radio 96.3 WJAA Battle of the Bands 7-11 p.m.
• Friday, July 4: 95.3 WIKI, 1460 AM WJCP and Eagle 99.3 present Young Country and Whiskey Kiss, 7-11 p.m.
• Friday, July 4: R.C. Boat Races. 10 a.m. at Krueger Lake inside JPG.
• Saturday, July 5: WORX 96.7 FM / WXGO 1270 AM present the Jimmy Davis Band, Battle of Band winner and other bands, 1-11 p.m.
• Friday, July 4: Madison Regatta Parade. 6 p.m. on Main Street beginning at Jefferson Street.
• Saturday, July 5: The Madison Courier Firecracker 10k Walk/Run. 8 a.m. walk; 8:30 a.m. run, beginning at the Madison Consolidated High School.
• Friday-Sunday, July 5-6: Grote Industries Air Shows. Times TBA at the riverfront.
•  Saturday, July 5: American Legion Post No. 9 Fireworks Spectacular. approximately
10 p.m. at the riverfront. (Free admission)

The annual Madison Courier Firecracker 10K Run-Walk begins at 8 a.m. Saturday at the high school.
This year’s Saturday night fireworks show again has been generously sponsored by the American Legion Post 9.
The fireworks spectacular, held at the riverfront at 10 p.m., is free to the public. On other nights, a Regatta wristband or button will be required to access the riverfront.

• Saturday, July 5: WORX 96.7 FM and WXGO 1270 AM present “Audible Point” (1 p.m.); Assorted Flavors (3 p.m.); Battle of the Bands winner (5:30 p.m.); Jimmy Davis Band (7 p.m.); and Same Soul (after the fireworks).
