A
DVD version of the movie "Madison"
is expected to be released Sept. 13 by SONY Pictures, which bought
MGM soon after the latter company's limited national release of
the movie last April.
Once released, the 99-minute movie can be purchased online for $24.96
but the film is being sold now at a pre-order discount of $19.99.
The DVD comes with a "Making of" featurette and features
widescreen presentation. Subtitles are available in English, Spanish
and French.
The movie was the fifth-highest grossing film in the United States
on a per screen average during the weekend it opened. As a result,
MGM expanded its release to additional cities in the ensuing weeks
this summer.
The movie was either the highest or second-highest grossing film
on a per screen basis in many cities in the Midwest, including Indiana
and Kentucky, plus Cincinnati.
The film was considered a critical success after getting strong
reviews from the country's top reviewers, such as Roger Ebert, Leonard
Maltin and Jeffrey Lyons. "For a film that started as a small
independent to be released by a major studio around the country,
I think everyone is pleased," said the movie's co-writer and
director, Bill Bindley.
Bindley said the film may be released theatrically in Europe and
other foreign territories in the coming months.
