The Overlook Room will soon be the largest conference-banquet
center in the area. It will accommodate up to 350 people for meetings,
conventions, weddings and other events, officials said. In a central
location between Cincinnati, Indianapolis and Louisville, the venue
could bring a number of business meetings and conventions to Madison.
We have already received a number of calls from groups in other
areas that want to book an event at the center, said Gary Miller,
assistant director of State Park Inns for the State of Indiana.
The Riverview building, when completed, will contain 37 rooms and three
suites. The building will connect to the 31 room main lodge, which was
remodeled four years ago, giving the Inn 71 rooms. Also added during
the remodel of the main lodge was a new state-of-the-art indoor swimming
pool and spa.
An update of the Clifty Inn Restaurant is also under way. The dining
room closed in January to receive a new kitchen facility.
The restaurant will re-open in early May. The dining area will gradually
transition into a nature setting, but the menu will remain the same.
Guest can expect the same down home country cooking as always,
said Karen Hinton, General Manager of Clifty Inn.
All of the facilities at Clifty Inn are enjoyed by both local and out
of town visitors. Local residents might spend a day at the park, take
a weekend getaway at the Inn, hold a wedding or party at the banquet
center, or simply have dinner at the restaurant.
Out of town guests visiting the Inn use the facilities and visit other
areas throughout the community.
Our average stay is 21/2 nights, said Hinton. People
who visit the Inn are staying in our hotel, eating in Madisons
restaurants and shopping in our stores. A newly up-dated facility
with a large conference center will likely increase the number of visitors
and possibly the length of their stays.
The previously existing buildings were constructed in 1974. Until 2004,
neither building had received any updates or remodels. In need of a
face-lift, it was deemed by the state that it would be more economical
to rebuild rather than renovate.
State officials hired Dunlaps, a general contractor from Columbus, Ind.,
to complete the renovation that included tearing down and completely
rebuilding the two buildings.
The main lodge at Clifty Inn has remained open during construction and
will continue to accommodate guests through the project.
