Oldham Countians celebrate
opening of Main Street location

Staff Report

(June 2007) – Dozens of Oldham Countians took part in the May 10 grand opening celebration of Gallery 104, a place for artists to exhibit and sell their work. The venue at 104 E. Main St., La Grange, also will serve as a location for art lectures, networking, education, tourism and more, officials said. Most important, it will serve as a planning space for events such as “Arts on the Green” and the Bluegrass Independent Film Festival, as well as, the central headquarters for the Arts Association of Oldham County.
Oldham County Chamber of Commerce officials helped plan and hold the grand opening event.

“The decision to commit to the financial liability of renting space for our new home was a pretty scary one,” said Marion Gibson, Arts Association board president and Semonin Realtor. “But we are taking a leap of faith here in our 10th year of existence. A leap of faith that our members will support us, and that, in turn, we can support artists and art lovers right here in Oldham County.”
The grand opening of Gallery 104 included a special event called Cookin’ Up the Arts. Cookin Up the Arts was a fundraiser to honor the arts in Oldham County and to help complete the funding necessary to open Gallery 104. It also marked the 10th anniversary of the Arts Association of Oldham County. The association was founded in 1997 under the auspices of the Oldham County Chamber of Commerce.
“Who would have believed a short 10 years ago that we could have brought so much art, so much education, and introduced so many people to the wonderful world of art and friendly people of this great county,” said Donna Miller, a founding member of the Arts Association and the current Scholarship Director. “None of it could have come to pass without the support of our members, local businesses, and hard working friends of the arts. We are truly grateful.”
