(March 2008) – Although Artful Living Inc. has been opened at 313 W. Main St. in Madison, Ind., since May 2005, the company will have a grand re-opening during the month of March. The grand re-opening includes the launch of an online webstore and a television program that will be shown in cities throughout the region.
“We have changed our focus and basically re-invented ourself,” said owner Susan Frede. Among the changes is a new name. The company will now be known as Artful Living Co.

in May 2005.

Frede said the company has completely recreated its store to be a design showroom and workshop. “People should come in to see the changes,” she said. “Our store looks completely different.”
While Artful Living offers interior decorating and has décor items, artwork and furniture for sale, its primary focus is on interior design, architectural design and kitchen design. “We have certified design specialists, and many of those have studied extensively to earn their degrees.”
The company has recently been hired by the City of Madison to conduct a spatial study of the City Hall building. Architect Brian Martin, head of architectural design at the company, said the building has a lot of unused space that could be turned into work areas for some of the cramped departments within City Hall. “We are working on a concept that will use all of the available space in a smarter way.”
The study will go through several processes, and a conceptual drawing will be presented to the city when finished. Martin said the entire process should take about two months.
Artful Living Co. is also launching a television program focusing on design. Hosted by Emmy-winning broadcaster Janet Ivey, the show will air sometime in the spring in the Louisville, Ky., Indianapolis and Cincinnati markets. Frede said no decision has yet been made on whether the show will be broadcast on a major television network or a more specialized satellite or cable network channel.
“We haven’t decided which way would be the best for reaching our customers,” said Frede. The show is filmed on location at various sites in and around Madison.
The launch of the store’s online webstore will take place March 1. Artful Living Co. has organized several design collections for select living areas. People will be able to browse through the selections and purchase the total package.
“What we have done is made it easy for people to know that everything in that particular room will work together because a professional design team put it together,” said Frede. “People ask all the time – what can I do with this or that? Well, we’ve done it for them.”
The packages are semi-customizable, in that people can choose to purchase the entire collection or only parts of it.
At this point, only living room, dining room and kitchen collections are available online. However, more collections for home offices, bathrooms, bedrooms and family-entertainment rooms will be added in the coming weeks.
Artful Living Co. still offers its ongoing design services in-store as well. There is almost always a designer available at the store to answer simple questions, and appointments can be made for more in-depth work.
