Geurkink to open exhibit
draws antique cars,
NORTH VERNON, Ind. (May 2009) An opening reception
for colored pencil artist Wendell Geurkink is planned for 5:30 to 7:30
p.m. Friday, May 1, at A Perfect Day Café, 221 E. Walnut St.
in North Vernon, Ind. The event will feature wine tasting for $5 and
his exhibit will be on display through the month of May.
Geurkinks life career was dominated by furniture
design and woodworking. Hes a graduate of Kendall School of Design
in Grand Rapids, Mich., where he received training in furniture design
and drawing. His design career began at RCA in Indianapolis designing
cabinetry for television and stereos. He also worked as a design coordinator
with Mersman Tables in Celina, Ohio, designing and creating living room
A resident of North Vernon and now retired, in 2006 he
began drawing landmarks, wildlife, antique cars and other subjects using
colored pencils. A sketch of the local North Vernon caboose was donated
and hangs in the mayors office.
