CARROLLTON, Ky. (November 2011) – Every year, Christin Stoops watches the Miss USA pageant with her best friend. They have a Miss USA party, complete with snacks that include a crown-shaped cheese ball. Little did they know that some day Stoops would live out her dream of competing in the televised pageant.
Stoops was selected to participate in the Miss Kentucky USA 2012 pageant, an opportunity she has waited her whole life to fulfill. The rush of adrenaline Stoops gets when walking onstage at a pageant is what fuels her to keep competing.
“I’ve always wanted to be Miss Kentucky USA,” said Stoops, 20, a 2009 Carroll County High School graduate. She has met some of the more recent contestants and was inspired by them. “I want to turn around and inspire others.”

Carroll County’s
Christin Stoops has
pageantry in her
blood, having competed
in such events since
she was a baby.

Stoops said she has competed in pageants since she was a baby. She is the daughter of Indiana native Arthur Stoops and Denia Stoops, who is from Carrollton, Ky.
If Stoops wins the Miss Kentucky USA 2012 competition, she can compete for the title of Miss USA (a nationally televised pageant on NBC) and then proceed to the Miss Universe pageant. The date for the Miss Kentucky USA pageant has changed from November 2011 to a tentative date of January 27-29, 2012, in Louisville, Ky., at a location to be determined.
Stoops first had to apply on the www.MissKentucky
USA.com website, attend a casting call for interviews and go through a background check. The actual pageant will consist of swimsuit, evening gown and interview portions, with the finals consisting of contestants’ answers to an on-stage question. Contestants must be between 18-27 in age.
Before she even competes in the Miss Kentucky USA pageant, Stoops said she has to “do a lot of volunteer work.” She and the other contestants have to attend red carpet events and various photo shoots as well.
On Nov. 11 she will be volunteering at the Festival of Lights in Louisville. “I’ll be helping in the Secret Santa Shop,” said Stoops.
In the past, Stoops has won several pageant titles, including Miss Carroll County Fair 2010, Miss Teen Carroll County 2006, Miss Pre-Teen Carroll County 2003 and Little Miss Carroll County 1996. The year she graduated high school, Stoops also placed in the top 15 at the Miss Kentucky Teen USA.
Competing in pageants has taught her “how to be more outgoing and to interview really well,” she said.
Stoops is currently a junior at Northern Kentucky University majoring in Secondary Social Studies Education. “I plan to teach high school Social Studies,” she said. “I also want to teach psychology and develop a History of Kentucky course.”
Anyone wanting to support Stoops can “like” her official Facebook page, “Christin Stoops for Miss Kentucky USA 2012.”
