‘Thunder Over Louisville’

Event kicks of two weeks of Derby fun

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (April 2012) – Do you Thunder? If so, here are some options for attending this year’s Thunder Over Louisville, set for April 21 in Louisville.
• Miller Lite Presents the KFC Yum! Center “River Bash.” The KFC Yum! Center River Bash presented by Miller Lite will celebrate Thunder Over Louisville and feature live entertainment, concessions and cash bar. Doors open at 1 p.m. at the rear entrance on River Road.

River Bash offers Thunder Over Louisville fans a great way to celebrate all the festivities in a covered area off River Road. The event will include a “Thunder Day Buffet” feast from 4-7 p.m., concessions, cash bar and live entertainment featuring local legends, “The Louisville Crashers.”
Seats are available for $100, reserved, or $800 for a table of eight, with guests able to come and go as they please throughout the day. Children ages 2 and under are free. Seats are limited. Concert Lineup at Kroger's 'Fest-A-Ville on the Waterfront'

• Sunday April 29: Christian rock acts – Jonny Diaz at 5 p.m.; Chris Sligh at 6 p.m.; and Building 429 at 7 p.m.
• Tuesday, May 1: The RhythmFest show features George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic at 9 p.m.
• Wednesday, May 2: Walk The Moon will appear with special guest Ha Ha Tonka at 7 p.m.
• Thursday, May 3: AWOLNATION in concert at 9 p.m.
• Derby Eve Jam on Friday, May 4: The Charlie Daniels Band with guest The HillBenders at 8 p.m.

• ThunderBlast 2012: Rock The Block! Separated from the crowds, guests attending the Louisville Science Center’s annual family-friendly fundraising event, “ThunderBlast,” will enjoy a full day of fun and a front-row, riverside view of Thunder Over Louisville, the largest annual fireworks display in North America.
The event is scheduled from 2-11 p.m. Saturday, April 21. Guests will enjoy a picnic-style meal and dining tent, a riverside view of the Thunder Over Louisville air show and fireworks in a secure outdoor area reserved for ThunderBlast guests only, indoor restrooms, indoor and outdoor kids’ activities including special demonstrations on the Science Stage, a Sound Garden, Inflatables, a giant chess board, and much more.
Guest also will have access to the Science Center’s exhibit galleries including, “GUITAR: The Instrument That Rocked The World,” presented locally by AT&T, plus additional food and beverage vendors.
Also available to ThunderBlast guests will be Guitar SMASH! Channel your inner-Pete Townsend by demonstrating your strength and rock-ability. For $25 you will receive one guitar, generously donated by Music-Go-Round, to smash until your heart’s content. You know you’ve always wanted to, so c’mon, get wild. Guests also will have the opportunity to purchase additional IMAX tickets for shows occurring during the event at the discounted rate of $4 each.
Member adult tickets are $65; non-member adult tickets are $85; children ages 2-12 years are $40. Parking is $10 per space and located in the Advocacy Parking Garage at Eighth and Jefferson streets, which is two blocks south of the Science Center.
• Thunder at the Kentucky Center. Excellent viewing is available at the Kentucky Center’s north terrace at The Belvedere. Tickets are $40 adults and $20 for children ages 12 and under. Children 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets include a Derby pin.
Doors open at 2 p.m.. The air show begins at 3 p.m. and the fireworks show is at 9:30 p.m. To purchase tickets, visit: www.KentuckyCenter.org or call 1-800-775-7777.
• Thunder Over Louisville fans making last-minute plans for a place to park their RV, pitch a tent or park their car have an option that’s close to the action. Metro Parks is selling passes for Thunder weekend at Eva Bandman Park, 1701 River Rd., for the third consecutive year.
Eva Bandman Park is located along the Ohio River near Frankfort Avenue, less than a 10-minute stroll from the eastern edge of Waterfront Park.
RV parking is available beginning Friday, April 20, for $200. All parking spaces can accommodate a 40-foot vehicle with an awning.
Tent campers bringing tents may stay in Eva Bandman Park on Friday and Saturday nights for $50. This includes space for one car, not necessarily next to your tent. Additional cars are $15 each.
Parking on Saturday, April 21, will be available at Eva Bandman Park as long as space permits at a cost of $20 per vehicle. Cash only, paid at time of arrival.Visit www.Metro-Parks.org/parks/bandman or call (502) 456-8157.
