Catherine Bryant
grew up on Madison
Street in La Grange,
the daughter of
a dentist, Dr.
James S. Long.

Show judge, Mary Dennis Kannapell, of Pyro Gallery and former Art Director at the Louisville Zoo, described Bryant’s piece as having “masterful lighting and nice juxtaposition.”
Other winners include: Second Place – “Koi” graphite on paper by Cassidy Young of Bloomington, Ind.; Third Place – “Hare,” a ceramic by Jenni Deamer of Louisville; Honorable Mention – “Word,” a Mixed Media by Cora Pugh of La Grange.
Bryant is a native of La Grange and lived on Madison Street while growing up. Her father was a local dentist, Dr. James S. Long. She graduated from Oldham County High School and later attended Eastern Kentucky University. She then graduated from the University of Louisville.
Bryant worked as an airbrush Illustrator, then had her own mural business for 25 years and a gallery on Frankfort Avenue in Louisville from 2002-2009.
She has received numerous awards in shows, including several from the Madison (Ind.) Art Club from 2006-2009.
Kathy Dowling, executive director of the Arts Association of Oldham County, and curator of its Gallery 104, describes Animal Attraction as one of the most popular and fun shows. This year, 20 artists submitted 45 pieces of animal art in a wide variety of media. Dowling reports that AAOC shows are open to any artist willing to jury in and that she is excited that artists are now coming from even further distances to participate.
She said Terri Miller, Animal Attraction show co-chair, was instrumental in facilitating the success of this show with managing a volunteer support team, sponsorship and awards reception activities. Ziggy, the Dalmatian mascot from the Woofery pet specialty shop in La Grange, helped greet guests at the reception on April 11.
Animal Attraction is sponsored by La Grange Animal Hospital, Messer Construction, Bedford Bank & Loan, Art of Healing Massage, Jerry & Roxanne Kopp and Yves Body & Sole.
Bryant has two other cattle paintings in the show, which runs through May 16.
Gallery 104 is owned and operated by the Arts Association of Oldham County. It is located at 104 E. Main St. in La Grange. For more information, contact Dowling at (502) 222-3822 or email: execdir@aaooc.org
