Family Fun Day

New location, new date for
Showcase Oldham County

O.C. Chamber's trade show moves to
La Grange's CityPlace

LA GRANGE, Ky. (May 2015) – For more than 20 years, Showcase Oldham County has been a great way to experience all that the county has to offer. Some old favorites will combine with new activities in a new venue to provide fun for all ages.
“The fact that this year’s Showcase is at CityPlace in downtown La Grange makes everything new,” said Deana Epperly Karem, executive director for Oldham Chamber & Economic

Deana Epperly Karem

Development. Attendees will still be able to experience exhibits, family activities, a basketball shootout and a new car show, “but we’ll have a totally new layout, and we’re in a totally new part of Oldham County actually by being in downtown La Grange.”
Previously, Showcase Oldham County has been held at the Oldham County YMCA Soccer Complex in Buckner. This annual community event draws more than 80 local business exhibitors and 1,000 people from across the county.
Now in its 21st year, this annual trade show has been a success because “folks like seeing the businesses and gathering for the fun,” said Karem, who has led the chamber since 2007. Since last year, the Chamber offices are housed in CityPlace, 112 South First Ave. in La Grange.
The 2015 Showcase Oldham County will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday, May 8. There will be something to interest all ages, including food, crafts, bouncies, exhibits and more. Events will take place in Pavilion 1 and 2 and on the Plaza at CityPlace.
Many attendees look forward to the Basketball Competition, which will feature more than 120 Oldham County school athletes. The competition will begin at 5:30 p.m. behind Pavilion 1.
Entertainment will take place on the Plaza at CityPlace. One of the featured performances will be a demonstration by Kentucky Tae Kwon Do. Located in Crestwood, it is rated as one of the Top 50 Martial Arts Schools in the country.

Showcase Oldham County usually takes place in March but was moved to May this year because “we wanted to showcase CityPlace as a part of our event,” said Karem. “That meant we would need to utilize the entire space, so we moved it to a month that we thought was good for outdoor activities.”
The Showcase Kickoff Luncheon for Chamber members and guests is scheduled from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, at CityPlace Pavilion 2. This event is presented by Norton Brownsboro Hospital.
This year’s luncheon keynote speaker will be comprised of a panel of regional business leaders. “We are happy to hear the success stories of Ali Truttman (Wicked Sheets), John Stewart (Encompass), Mitch Williams (Restoration TrimParts) and Veekat Natarajan (GE First Build),” Karem said.
She encourages people to come to the event “to learn about your community and see who some of the local businesses are and enjoy a beautiful Friday evening.”
