The Hall was established in 2012 and includes 19 previous inductees, all deceased writers except for Henry County author Wendell Berry. During the January program, Kentucky author Ed McClanahan read an excerpt from Allen’s work. University of Kentucky English professor Gurney Norman read an excerpt from Hubbard’s book, “Shantyboat.” Kentucky poet laureate George Ella Lyon read an excerpt from Rice’s work. And three of Ritchie’s nieces performed a song written by their late aunt. Mason also spoke and stayed afterward for a book signing.
The Kentucky Writers Hall of Fame was created to recognize Kentucky writers whose work reflects the character and culture of our commonwealth, and to educate Kentuckians about our state’s rich literary heritage. For a writer to have been eligible this year, he/she must be 1) deceased (excluding one living writer); 2) published; 3) someone whose writing is of enduring stature; and 4) someone connected in a significant way to the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Attending the program in support of Hubbard was Flo and Bill Caddell of Frankfort, Ind. Caddell owns one of the largest collections of Hubbard artwork and woodcuts.

The program was filmed by Kentucky Educational Television for an upcoming segment on “Kentucky Life.”
